Natural Resource Management is the primary tool to adopt climate resilient practices from the very root level of the society to the top. It is not only the issue of Agriculture but in all the way to address the issue of climate risks. Though here in our villages we have initiated the practice from the beginning of 2013 on the aspect of available resource according to the area. Crop selection, Water Management, and usage of manure maintaining the quantity are the Primary focus points, increasing the capacity of the farmers, planning for the diversification of the weather and improved market structures are the secondary focus points in our intervention.
Our nutritional garden involves Six factors: Vegetable family, Beans family, Spinach family, Roots Family, Herbs Family and Fruits Family. The main intension behind the Nutritional Garden concept is to supply fresh vegetables, adopting nutritive food intake, decrease the daily expenses of a family for the raw materials, which also increase the savings of a family. REWARD only provide one time the raw materials and also provide the training to use the technology along with the promotion of climate resilient practices.
Farmer field School concept have been initiated from the year 2016 to establish a platform with Farmers, Resource persons, sustaining the traditional knowledge along with modern technology. In the beginning it has been implemented in the dry zone of Birbhum, Bankura where the villages are based with Tribal communities. These communities depend on the forest-based products because they are able to cultivate at the time of rain only. Hence, in the lean period value addition to the local available resources fetch them the price of consumable products, which are being needed to sustain. In general scenario it is very easily observed that our farmers cultivate with less knowledge hence, they use excessive seeds, manure, pesticides and insecticides to get the maximum output, which as a consequence does not come out with good revenue, rather than they end up with loss. The FFS helps to make cultivation commercial in the aspect of expenses and earning revenue for it.
